There is a science and an art to writing sermons. Once you have the science in place, writing sermons will get easier with experience. In fact, you will find great pleasure in writing two or three sermons a week.

Trust me! Before I put the science together, I struggled to write two or three sermons a week. Now, with the science in place, I write two or three sermons a week with ease.

1. The Science to Writing Sermons.

What do I mean by science? I mean that there are some basic principles you must observe when writing sermons.

In fact, there are four principles or concepts you must keep in mind when you write a sermon.

• There are three parts to every sermon - introduction, body and conclusion.
• The sermon outline is the body of the sermon.
• The sermon outline has a main preaching point, sub-points and incidental points.
• The main preaching point is linked to the sub-points and incidental points with a HINGE word. The HINGE word is always a plural noun.

What do I mean by the art to sermon writing? I mean there comes a time in your sermon writing experience when you find great enjoyment in writing sermons.

When I first starting writing sermons, I found it very time consuming and somewhat a duty.

However, once I developed the science of writing sermons, I found sermon writing a lot easier. In fact, I enjoyed writing sermons and sermon outlines.
