The Importance of Setting GoalsThe Importance of Setting Goals is paramount to meaning and purpose in life. The goals we set represent the expectations, hopes and dreams we have in life. Tips on Setting GoalsSomeone once said, "If you aim for nothing, you will hit it every time." In other words, setting goals stop you wondering through life aimlessly. To put it another way, setting goals will help you plan your ideal future and motivate you to reach your dreams and expectations. How do you plan your ideal future and realize your dreams? It involves setting short term and long term goals. Short Term and Long Term GoalsShort term goals are goals that you put in place to achieve outcomes in a short period of time. For example, you may set goals for tomorrow, this week or this month. These are short term goals. In most cases, short term goals are the stepping stones in fulfilling your long term goals. Long term goals are goals that you put in place to realize your hopes, dreams and expectations for the future. For example, your long term goal is to be a doctor. However, to achieve that you know you must do well in your senior school years. So, you put in place short term goals to reach your long term goal of becoming a doctor. In light of this, short term goals need to be measured in order to see if they are helping you reach your long term goals. It is welcoming to re-assess your short term goals. If they are hindering you fulfilling your long term goals, then you need to revise them. You will need to revise your long term goal. Instead of being a doctor, you may decide to become a teacher. 5. Reward Yourself When You Achieve Your GoalsSetting goals is a way of improving your work, achievements or study disciplines.
