Short term goals are goals that you put in place to achieve outcomes in a short period of time. For example, you may set goals for tomorrow, this week or this month. These are short term goals.

In most cases, short term goals are the stepping stones in fulfilling your long term goals.

Long term goals are goals that you put in place to realize your hopes, dreams and expectations for the future.

For example, your long term goal is to be a doctor. However, to achieve that you know you must do well in your senior school years. So, you put in place short term goals to reach your long term goal of becoming a doctor.

In light of this, short term goals need to be measured in order to see if they are helping you reach your long term goals.
